Devil’s Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) is a perennial plant belonging to the Pedaliaceae family. Popularly known as Devil’s Claw, this plant species is native to the semi-arid regions of southern Africa where it thrives in sandy soils and arid climates. Its relevance lies in the fact that it can help relieve pain and improve joint mobility.
The properties of Devil’s Claw are mainly associated with the active compounds present in its roots, such as Harpagoside and other Iridoid Glycosides. It also contains Flavonoids and Triterpenic Acids, such as Kaempferol and Oleanolic Acid, which can strengthen liver health.
It has been used for hundreds of years mainly in cases of osteoarthritis, arthritis, gout, lumbago, sprains and tendonitis.
